Blogs and WikisBlogs and Wikis Collaborating using Internet-Ready Tools

Similarities Writing tools Multiple users are creators of content Internet accessible tools – Anywhere, anytime content creation Customization Span across multiple classes or years

Differences Blogs Web journal Chronology Based Comments to content come from other users Interactive Widgets (e.g. Calendar, Twitter, Flickr, etc…) LDAP integration Wikis Collaboration Tool/Group Projects Track collaboration according to user Rollback capabilities Add users manually

Making the Decision: Blogs vs Wiki or Neither Why do you want a site outside of the LMS? Is this a project, course or organizational based site? Do you want this site to be accessible by everyone? Will there be guest users? What types of guest users will there be? Do you want to show chronological details? How long will this site need to be accessed? (For the course, year, etc…) What type of functionality do you want this site to have? How do you want the site to look after the content is populated?
