How/What/Who of Collaboration

Discussions Should be based on a value proposition/business case? Examples of successes and failures? Success: ClimatePrediction.net, e-diamond Conditions for success must be created. How? Changes in funding fashion? Science case should be paramount Failures: Reliance on grid infrastructure Long term usefulness of collaboration – is it a means to an end? Discussion of e-Science programme.

Who should be collaborating? Those who have a good business case to do so. Actual synergy. Those that have a clear vision. Control required to direct it. Parties need to be beneficiaries and stakeholders. Not those pushed together for funding fashion reasons. Be careful of dependencies.

How to collaborate? Ensure collaboration built in from the outset. Clear responsibilities and commitment. Personal contact Good communication and defined channels. Responsiveness. Correct project management roles.
