Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Wednesday, August 13th Algebra 1 Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Wednesday, August 13th

Cooperative Group Procedures Assigned seating --- students are assigned to a seating chart every 9 weeks. Transitions --- each class will be timed and compared to other classes. Cooperative groups --- 1-2-3 (timed) 1-stand 2-move 3-sit Working in groups --- 1-leader, 2-materials manager, 3-reporter, 4-recorder Getting out of cooperative groups --- 1-2-3 (timed)

Cooperative Grouping 4 roles per group: 1 piece of post-it graph paper Leader Recorder Reporter Materials manager 1 piece of post-it graph paper 4 colors

Materials: Materials manager has 1 minute to get all materials needed then return to the group. One piece of post-it graph paper 4 colors/marker

1st operation: Leader divides paper into 4 equal rectangles. Each group member uses a different color & writes/draws a REAL WORLD example of an event that must be done in a specific order example  taking a shower, baking a cake, etc…

2nd operation: The leader and reporter from each group will share/discuss the group’s posters What is the importance of the order of events?

P E D M A S Order of Operations Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Use PEMDAS “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally” Use the Left-to-Right rule when there is a tie. = Always do the left operation first in event of a tie. P Step 1: arenthesis (Brackets and Fraction Bar too) E Step 2: xponents M D Left-to-Right Rule Step 3: ultiplication ivision A S Left-to-Right Rule Step 4: ddition ubtraction

Group GOAL: You must come up with at least one Acronym for the order of operations, PEMDAS. example  People Eat McDonalds And Sonic

Bonus: 6 3 2 +8 2 ∙ 3 −2 2+4 2 +5 This problem can be done as seen. Create 2 problems that cannot be done simply as written, but must truly be evaluated by using order of operations. This problem can be done as seen. 6 3 2 +8 2 ∙ 3 −2 This problem requires PEMDAS. 2+4 2 +5
