3 Main Kinds… Visual – taking your eyes off of the road. Physical – taking your hands off the wheel Cognitive – requires you to think about something else

Examples of Distractions:  Phone usage (taking a call or texting)  Eating and/or drinking  Talking to passengers  Adjusting mirrors, etc.  Applying make-up  GPS  Radio, music  Reading maps, etc.  Smoking  External distractions

Find each distraction below :

Answers: 1.Talking on the phone 2.Dice hanging on the rearview mirror 3.Drinks and food 4.Children in the backseat 5.Front seat passenger reading a map 6.Construction workers on the street

I think that a certain amount of distractions is ok, as long as you feel in control, comfortable, and are not overwhelmed. Distractions are going to happen to any driver at some point, no matter how skilled of a driver you are. Sometimes, we don’t have a choice other than to have a distraction. GPS is often necessary, as well as talking to passengers. However, there are some distractions that tend to be more fatal, such as texting while behind the wheel. My opinion is that you can always pull over to take care of “wants,” not “needs.”
