The Excretory System

Waste and water are removed from the blood by the kidneys to form urine. Urine flows from the kidneys to the bladder through the ureters.

Aid in moving the urine from the kidneys to the bladder

The bladder is the organ that stores the urine from the kidneys. It is balloon-shaped, hollow and muscular.

The urethra discharges urine from the body

 Chronic kidney disease  Cancer  Kidney stones  Infections

 When the nephrons are attacked and damaged by disease.  Nephrons are the tiny structures inside the kidney that filter blood.  It is caused by genetic problems or injuries

 These are solid materials that form in the kidneys from substances in the urine  Sizes vary from a grain of sand to the size of a pearl

 The cancer forms in the lining of the tubes of the kidneys  It usually occurs in people over the age if 40.  It is caused by smoking, misuse of pain medication and again genetic problems

 When the urinary tract is infected  They are second most common type of infection in the body

 To get rid of wastes

 Eat healthily  Drink plenty of fluids, especially water as it plays a vital role in keeping the excretory system healthy  Exercise regularly  Avoid toxins, such as alcohol, drugs and smoking
