DESCRIPTION RATIONALE  In this PowerPoint I was to talk about an educational issue with my partner. We decided to talk about the lack of parental. I explained how it affects our students in school.  To document my understanding of Standard #10, Leadership & Collaboration I have included information based on the issue I chose. The information shows me what I can do to get my parents involved. It also allows me to collaborate with others to give students that extra push they need.

 Today in education many children suffer from lack of parental support. This is the biggest factor of why teens drop out next to teen pregnancy. Many teachers go through a whole school year without meeting a parent. This lack of support affects not only the student but the parents and teacher as well.

 513 (19-35 ages)  No parental support/encouragement (23%)  Became parents (21%)  Missed too many school days (17%)  Failing classes (15%)  Not interested (15%)  Mental illness (15%)

 helps better the academic performance.  can improve the child's classroom behavior.  not only benefits children but parents as well.  decrease use of drugs & alcohol.  shows the teacher you care as much as they do.

 Child becomes careless  Decreased academic success  Unstable future  Often drop out  In & out of jail

 Parent involvement declines as child gets older  Death in family can cause decline in involvement  Divorce can cause decline in involvement  Working lots of hours to stay afloat is a decline in involvement  Lack of English is a big decline in involvement  Parent not finishing school is the biggest reason for decline in involvement due to embarrassment

 If parent involvement is such an issue, why haven't schools been adamant about getting them involved?  Are parents fully aware of how and what they can do to ensure their child’s success?
