Module 4: River Basin Management Planning regarding Blueprint Document, Training Skills, Transboundary Issues, Public Consultation, Negotiation Skills. RBM Planning and Decision Support Systems Senad Ploco March, 2015

ICZM Training, Georgetown XI/1999 IV What is DSS all about? Klein and Methlie (1995) defined a decision support system (DSS) as: "A computer information system that provides information in a given domain of application by means of analytical decision models and access to databases, in order to support a decision maker in making decisions effectively in complex and ill-structured tasks."

ICZM Training, Georgetown XI/1999 IV DSS: basic features  to support - not to make decisions;  to improve the quality of decisions;  to structure decision making process;  to facilitate dialogue with stakeholders;  to integrate NRM, SEM and AIM;  to speed up evaluation process.

ICZM Training, Georgetown XI/1999 IV What a DSS is supposed to do?  to support one or all phases of RBM planning cycle (problem definition, planning, development, implementation and monitoring);  to store relevant RBM data/information and enable their processing towards assessing all feasible options;  to be predictive.

ICZM Training, Georgetown XI/1999 IV DSS: major components  measurement module;  information module;  modelling module,  evaluating module;  presentation module;  user interface.

ICZM Training, Georgetown XI/1999 IV Evaluating module  impact assessment;  multicriteria analysis;  score cards;  risk and sensitivity analysis.
