How to Make a Sand Cast Fossil By Mrs. Waytowich’s Second Grade Roberge Elementary School River Vale, New Jersey, USA March 2010

Step 1 First fill mold with sand. Scoop out a flat area. Press down objects and remove to imprint or leave in to embed.

Step 2 Fill the mold with plaster of Paris. Use enough to cover the sand completely.

Step 3 Let sand casts dry overnight.

Step 4 Over a drop cloth, turn fossils upside down to remove excess sand. Use a paintbrush to brush away remaining sand.
