Activity Report Status: Draft The opportunity Continuing health professions education and certification is a highly fragmented industry. A plethora of organizations provide CE, making it difficult for the professional to get a clear picture of the CE they have completed. Maintenance of certification and licensure efforts require clinicians to complete activities on an ongoing basis, but it is often difficult for boards to track what activities have been completed. Better mechanisms of tracking professional activities are necessary. A standards-based approach The MedBiquitous Activity Report provides a standard format for exchanging CE certificate data and Maintenance of Certification activity data. Using this standard, organizations can work together to create centralized tracking systems for clinician CE or Maintenance of Certification activity, helping clinicians to get a better sense of their own education and needs. The American Academy of Pediatrics uses the Activity Report to send data on physicians completing Maintenance of Certification activities to the American Board of Pediatrics. HighWire Press uses the Activity report to send CE certificate data to the American Heart Association, which tracks CE data centrally in its learning management system. Tracking professional development activities is essential for clinicians trying to practice lifelong learning and keep up with licensure and certification requirements. In such a fragmented industry, tracking is impossible without a common approach. Several pilot implementations of the specification are currently underway. The working group will refine the specification based on implementation experience before announcing the standards development activity to the American National Standards Institute community. In addition, web services descriptions are available to fully automate CE and MoC data exchange. The group is exploring the use of pdf to make machine readable certificates available for download. HighWire Press creates an Activity Report record of online journal- based CME, which the American Heart Association then imports into its system for learner transcripts The American Academy of Pediatrics sends the American Board of Pediatrics information about a learner completing eQiPP to satisfy Part 4 of Maintenance of certification.
