Timeline 1928: Elie Wiesel is born on September, : Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany. 1935: Nuremberg Race Laws against the Jews. 1938: Kristallnacht: Government-organized pogrom against the Jews (Germany, Austria, parts of Czechoslovakia). 1940: Romania ceded Northern Transylvania (includes Sighet) to Hungary.

Timeline, continued. 1941: Japan attacks Pearl Harbor. 1942: Wannsee Conference- All state, Nazi, and SS Agencies are on board with the “Final Solution”. 1944: Germany occupies Hungary. Elie Wiesel and his family are deported to Auschwitz. 1945: Soviet Troops liberate Auschwitz on January 27 th. – Elie and his father were transferred to Buchenwald days before. – Buchenwald is liberated in April 1945.
