Planets The Planet Saturn By Genevieve Mullins

Saturn’s Location There are nine planets in our Solar System. Saturn is the 6th planet from the Sun.

Size of Saturn Saturn is the second largest planet in the Solar System. It is 74,130 miles around Saturn’s equator.

This graph shows a comparison between all the planets. Showing Saturn’s low density.

Saturn’s Rotation A day on the planet Saturn is only 10 hours and 39 minutes. Because of Saturn’s fast rotation, the planet is visibly flattened at the poles. It takes 29.5 Earth years to revolve about the Sun.

Interesting Facts about Saturn The Great White Spot is a storm that goes completely around the planet. Saturn has extreme winds, up to 1,100 miles per hour.

More Facts About Saturn Saturn is considered to be a Gas Giant because it is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium. Saturn has the lowest density of all the planets - it is light!!!

Saturn’s Rings Saturn is well known for it’s ring system. There are hundreds of thousands of rings making up Saturn’s ring system. Each ring is made up mostly of ice crystals. To view video of the rings, click on the picture

The Many Moons of Saturn

More on Saturn’s Satellites and Moons Saturn has 19 satellites and 3 moons. Saturn’s largest moon is Titan. –Titan is the second largest of all moons.

Space Joke Since Saturn has such low density, if you had a bathtub large enough to fit Saturn, the planet would float. Why would you not want to put the planet Saturn in a bathtub? Because it would leave a ring!!!

Comprehension Questions: In our Solar System, Saturn is planet number _______ ? How long is a day on Saturn? Is a Saturn day longer or shorter than an earth day? Why is Saturn slightly flattened? Saturn is well-known for it’s ____________ system. How many moons does Saturn have?
