Aquaculture/Fisheries development Focus (perspectives for 2020 ) Fish provides important source of food and protein. Current Lao consumption of fish is 11 kg.per capital ( 2004 ) Projection for 2020, consumption is 25 kg.per capital.

Current Activities Supporting Fisheries Management Planning & initiation of National Aquatic Resources institute in Lao PDR ( ongoing / DANIDA ) 1999 / 2005 Assessment of Mekong Fisheries 1997 / 2005 ( DANIDA / MRC Basin wide ) Reservoir Fisheries, Phase II ( DANIDA /MRC basin wide ) 2000 – Strengthening of fisheries Information’s systems ( proposal = MRC 2002 – 2004.

Current Activities Assisting Aquaculture Development Aquaculture improvement & Extension Project ( AQIP ) ( JICA 2000 – 2003 ) Establishment of Fish hatchery in Vientiane Province ( Government Republic of SINGAPORE ). Aquaculture of indigenous fish species ( AIMS ) ( DANIDA / MRC
