The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3 Prov 3:19-20 Creation vs. Evolution

V. The Doctrine of Creation, Chaos and Restoration. Gen 1:1-2

Isa 45:18, “For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, But formed it to be inhabited), “I am the LORD, and there is none else.”

Gen 1:2, “Deep” - TEHOM, “deep, sea, or abyss.” Cf. Psa 104:5-9

The 2 nd and 3 rd usage tell of the flood in Noah’s day, where the Lord judged the earth and covered it once again with water. Gen 7:11; 8:2.

Covering the earth with water is associated with judgment. Gen 6-9; 2 Peter 2:5; 3:5-7 Cf. Ex 15:5; Psa 106:9

Gen 9:11, “I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Gen 7:11, “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.”

“Abyss” in Greek – ABUSSOS, used 7 times, speaks to the imprisonment of some of the fallen angels. Luke 8:31; Rom 10:7;

Luke 8:31, “They (the legion of demons possessing a man) were imploring Him (Jesus) not to command them to go away into the abyss.” Cf. Rev 9:11; 11:17; 17:8; 20:1, 3

Gen 8:21, “The LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man (with a flood), for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.”

Gen 1:2b, “The Spirit of God, (RUACH ELOHIM – Holy Spirit), hovering over, (RACHAPH AL), the face (PANIM) of the waters (MAYIM).”

MAYIM - “Fresh or salt water, other fluids.” When used negatively, “urine, of danger, violence, and transitory things.” Another problematic situation on the earth.

1. Creation. Gen 1:1, God, (the Lord Jesus Christ), originally created the heavens and the earth out of nothing, (BARA).

2. Chaos. At some point we have the angelic conflict and God’s sentencing of Satan and the angels who stayed in rebellion with him, Job 4:18.

Job 4:18, “He puts no trust even in His servants; and against His angels He charges error.” Cf. Isa 14:12-14; Ezek 28:12-18

This led to the earth becoming “formless and void, covered with darkness and the deep, and water.”

3. Restoration. Gen 1:3-31, God’s restorative acts to the earth and the creation of animal and human life.

1st Day: The Lord restored light to the earth, Gen 1:3-5. This typifies the incarnation of the Son of God, who is the Light of the world, John 8:12; 9:5.

John 8:12, “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life”.”

2nd Day: The Lord restored the atmosphere, Gen 1:6-8. This typifies the Cross of Christ - the divider of humanity, “many waters”, Num 24:7; 2 Sam 22:17; Rev 17:1.

Eph 2:14, “For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall.”

3rd Day: The Lord restored the dry land and brought forth vegetation, Gen 1:9-11.

Earth TOHU WAW BOHU Darkness – No Heat Darkness Jer 4:23, “I looked on the earth, and behold, it was formless and void; and to the heavens, and they had no light.” Gen 1:2, “The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep.”

The emergence of dry land and fruit typifies the resurrection of Christ. 1 Cor 15:20-23

1 Cor 15:20, “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.”

4th Day: The Lord restored the stellar universe, Gen 1: This typifies the ascension and session of Christ, John 3:13-21; Eph 4:8-10.

5th Day: The Lord created sea and air life, Gen 1: This calls attention to the Deity of Jesus Christ, in Hypostatic Union, John 10:30; Mat 1:18-23, (Immanuel, “God with us.”)

6th Day: The Lord created man, Gen 1: Typifies the humanity of Christ, as the second Adam, Rom 5:12-14; 1 Cor 15:45.

7th Day: The Lord Rested from His Work, Gen 2:3. This typifies our eternal rest in Christ Jesus, Heb 4:1-4, 9-10.

Grace Offering Heb 13:15, “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
