Beth Reed, Reading International Office2 International Student Barometer Began in Autumn 2006, runs in Autumn and Summer. Results shown here are collected from six editions of the survey: Autumn 2006 – Summer Please note, the base numbers for Part 1 students are low and therefore should be treated as qualitative. The response rate was high as populations are small. More data is available on wider areas but this data set focuses on the learning experience.

Beth Reed, Reading International Office3 International Student Barometer

Beth Reed, Reading International Office4 Headlines from this data Overall, levels of satisfaction are generally high with most areas surpassing 2.8 mean scores – generally this indicates over 75% of students are satisfied. Key areas of concern relate to work experience, careers advice from academic staff but not learning that will lead to a good job in the future. Satisfaction ratings for feedback on coursework have steadily improved until this summer.

Beth Reed, Reading International Office5 Headlines from this data Summer terms show lower levels of satisfaction with lecturers who are good teachers and academic course content – students are less satisfied as the year goes on. Despite lower levels of satisfaction in Summer terms, there has been year on year improvement in satisfaction levels with getting time from academic staff when needed and fair and transparent assessment of work. Technology (white boards, networking in teaching rooms, etc) consistently performs well.
