What is Saints Robotics? A student-run non- profit ASB organization Part of FIRST: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Participate in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)

How does Saints Robotics differ from other clubs/organizations? Heavy reliance on technology/information Large minimum yearly budget Focus on the “real world” and associated skills: going from idea to product Close interaction with adult administration: “The Man” Corporate ideology: “exploit it” Sustainable leadership model

What do we do? Hardware/build: design and build robots Public Relations: promotion, image, fundraising Software –Website: create and maintain website. Create content. Compete for website award. –Robot AI: program controller and autonomous mode for robot –3ds Max animation competition Auxiliary: Student Store, FIRST Lego League mentorship

What is the ultimate goal? Foster interest in math/science-related careers Create a team atmosphere Develop real-world thinking skills –Nothing gets done by itself –Ex: Paper does not buy itself, robot doesn’t self-assemble, websites don’t simply appear –Working with the bureaucracy Represent Interlake at Microsoft Seattle Regional FRC: win awards

What do we lack and need? Funds: –Sponsorships –Donations Expertise/mentorship –Website design –Computer engineering –Electrical engineering –Mechanical engineering –Team organization –Official representation –Financial guidance

How have we fared? 2006: bottom third –3 people at competition –Only $6,000 of funds 2007: 39 th out of 54 –9 people at competition –Only $7,000 of funds –No hardware mentors 2008: –Funds so far: $3,500 –44 members
