9 th Grade PEP Academic Planning

Overview 1.Review credits, GPA, and transcripts 2.Review individual students’ transcripts o Option 1: Print and distribute transcripts by class o Option 2: Have students log onto student portal 3.Play jeopardy game to review graduation requirements 4.Complete Naviance career & PS survey (if students haven’t done so already). Review Career Cluster results, if necessary. 5.Introduce Naviance course planner and completed 4-year course plan

Credit Review Students earn credits by passing a class (receiving an A, B, C, or D) For each standard one-semester course students’ pass, they earn 5 credits o (Courses may be worth more or less than five credits, depending on several factors, including how often the course meets.) If students fail (earn an F) in a course, they do NOT earn any credits and will need to repeat the course Freshman MUST pass Intro to Lit & Comp and Algebra 1 AND earn at least credits per semester to be considered on-track to graduate.

Review your Transcript Find your GPA Find your total credits Find your days absent …tardy Are you on-track? o Is so, what do you need to continue doing to stay on-track? o If not, what do you need to do differently to get back on-track? Talk to your parent(s), teachers, and counselor. Ask for their guidance in helping you create a plan to get back on-track.

1,4 Football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, wrestling and swimming are a few examples. What are DPS athletics?

2,1 This is how many credits a one-semester class is worth. What is 5?

2,2 This is the math class most freshman take. What is Algebra 1?

2,3 These are the subjects you need to take and pass 30 credits of to graduate. What are Science and Social Studies?

2,4 Speech and Debate, Foreign Language, Chess, Yearbook and Future Business Leaders of America are a few examples. What are clubs/activities?

3,1 This is how many credits you need to take (on average) each year. What is 60?

3,2 This is the social studies class you should take your sophomore year. What is US History?

3,3 These are the courses you Need to take a total of 100 Credits to graduate. What are Electives?

3,4 The group elected from the student body to serve as representatives to help govern the school. What is student council/government?

4,1 This is how many credits you earn when you earn an F in a class. What is zero?

4,2 This is the English or Language Arts class you should take your freshman year. What is Introduction to Literature and Composition?

If you haven’t done so already… Career & PS Survey Click “about me” Click “dps career & postsecondary goal survey ” Complete the survey and click (Click to next slide, if you need help logging onto CIC to view your Career Cluster results)

Go to if you need to review your Career Cluster quiz results to complete the survey. Sign in using the information below: Click “Sign In” (dps + student ID number) (6 digit birthday, mmddyy) dps

Click “Learn About Yourself” Click “Career Cluster Survey” Click “See your results now”

4-Year Course Plan 1) Click the “courses” tab 2) Click “manage my course plans”

4-Year Course Plan 3) Select one of the requirements to the left to view all available courses 4) Add the courses you have passed or are currently taking. Add any classes you plan to take over the next 4 years. Be sure that your plan adds up to 240 credits and meets all graduation requirements. 5) For each course you select, click to add the course to your plan. 2) Click “Create new draft plan” 1) Click to “add a new plan”
