Religion was very important to the Mayans.

The Mayans first form of men were called the wizard of the fatal laugh, the wizard of the night, the careless and the black wizard.

The Popal voh was the Mayans bible, it was very precious to them.

The ancient Mayans performed rituals to get close to gods. Fact box You can swim in the sacred cenote, legend has it that if you do it will add 2 years to your life.

The Mayans believe that there were 3 layers to the world and that the world was flat and lay on the back of a turtle like creature.

Interestingly, the Mayan leader sacrificed blood to insure they kept there power. Priest were thought to be able to talk to the gods, this gave them incredible power.

Nobles when they died were buried in tombs but commoners were buried in there own home,so they could be informed of daily life by ancestors.
