Welcome to Year 4! Miss Clegg (Violet) Miss Deung (Amethyst) Miss Sethi (Indigo)

Welcome Welcome to Year 4, the children are beginning to settle in and so are we! We are looking forward to a great year filled with hard work, fun and commitment from the children as they begin to become more independent in their learning.

Daily Routines Children are to arrive at school and be lined up ready to be collected from the playground at 8:50. Children should be in the correct school uniform as of September. If your child is unable to wear correct uniform you must provide a letter to the Head teacher explaining the reason. Ties should be worn at all times. Trainers are not acceptable school uniform. Please clearly label all of your child’s equipment and clothing. The teacher is unable to take responsibility for your children’s belongings!

PE 4 Violet have PE with their specialist teacher on Tuesday 4 Amethyst also have PE with their specialist teacher on Tuesday 4 Indigo have PE with their specialist teacher on Wednesday There will be swimming lessons beginning on Monday for 4 Amethyst and Friday for 4 Violet. 4 Indigo start swimming in October. Children should leave their PE kits in school and we will send them home at half term. Correct PE kit is: white t-shirt and black shorts or tracksuit bottoms in the winter, plimsolls. As with school uniform you must provide a note to explain if your child does not have the correct PE kit and also if they can’t take part a note will be needed too.

Equipment Your child should endeavour to bring a pencil case to school, which they can leave in their trays. This should include: a ruler, rubber, sharpener, pencil and coloured pencils. This will help your child to develop a sense of responsibility in preparation for their transition to Year 5 and eventually secondary school.

Homework All children were given a new school planner last week which must be brought into school every day. Children should use the planners to record any homework set. The planner is also used as a reading record and each child should be reading daily with an adult at home. Please could you sign to show you have done this Spellings will be taught within English lessons and there will be no formal spelling tests in class. If a planner is lost, unfortunately we will not be able to replace them as they have been a big financial investment for the school.

Homework-Bond Books All children will receive an English and a Maths piece of homework each week. These should take approximately minutes to complete each. Miss Clegg’s maths group will be given maths homework on Monday and will be due back on Wednesday Miss Deung’s maths group will be given maths homework on Monday and will be due back on Wednesday Miss Sethi’s maths group will be given maths homework on Wednesday and it will be due back on Friday

Homework-Bond Books 4 Violet will have English homework on Wednesday and this will be due in on Friday 4 Amethyst will have English homework on Wednesday and this will be due in on Friday 4 Indigo will have English homework on Monday and this will be due in on Wednesday Each child will have their own named zippy wallet with their own homework exercise book inside. The children are required to complete their homework in their homework exercise book.

Cracking Times Tables Every week your child will complete a timed times tables test. If they get all of the questions correct then they will receive a certificate and will move on to the next level. If they do not get all the tables correct they will stay on the appropriate level until they feel more confident and get all the questions correct. You can help your children by practising all of the tables with them, daily, for around 5/10 minutes!

Trips We hope to give your child plenty of learning experiences through trips and visits throughout Year 4. For Autumn Term we are currently organising a visit to Hampton court palace! We are also hoping to have an RE day and a Science day. There is also the potential for a residential trip in the summer term. We aim to keep trip costs to a minimum, however, we hope you see the educational value in these activities. More information will follow soon!

Expectations We are very grateful for all the support we receive from parents and we hope to build a good working relationship with you over the year. We believe that consistency between school and home helps to improve the education and behaviour of the children in both environments. Please feel free to ask us with any questions you may have!

Good to be Green Please make your way down to the hall for a meeting lead by our Deputy Head- Mrs Hall on our new behaviour system
