I Choose Life -Africa One of the leading youth focused organizations Programs in over 150 institutions both Secondary and Tertiary across 6 provinces in Kenya. Over 1 million youth reached with behaviour change messages in the year 2010

PRIMARY TARGET AUDIENCE An advertisement for an Expression of Interest for 10 Model Counties was placed in the dailies and the following Counties qualified and were selected: Machakos, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Kiambu, Meru, Nakuru, Narok, Homa Bay, Kericho, and Wajir

OPPORTUNIES 1.New Constitution –Citizens rights to education, health, information, etc. –Devolution of Central government that allows county focused development response –Counties government structure that allows for citizen participation

CHALLENGES 1.Devolution –Human resources skills capacity gap in the Counties –Leadership vacuum for the first 24 months –Inadequate systems such as monitoring and evaluation –Lack of models such as strategic planning, budgeting etc.

Project Purpose “A democratic political system that is issue-based, people-centered, result-oriented and accountable to the public.”

Objectives 1.To facilitate the development and dissemination of County strategic Frameworks that are nationally acceptable, development focused, aligned to Vision 2030 and include a performance monitoring plan with community and civil society participation. 2.To support the process of identifying competent leaders capable of delivering County Strategic Plans through media program and social change. 3.To facilitate the successful County strategic plans implementation through institutional strengthening support of the CSOs within the County and the County government

PRE-ELECTION KENYA MPYA FOCUS 1.Interreligious prayer and fasting on the month of November 2.Civil education on the Strategic Framework, Leadership selection and devolution 3.Formation of the Leadership Selection Committee 4.Aspiring Candidates interviews and dissemination of results 5.Recruitment toward voting

FUTURE KENYA MPYA POST ELECTION POSSIBILITIES 1.Expand the Kenya Mpya movement to the 10 other Model Counties 2.Support the establishment of the right County systems 3.Facilitate skills transfer through coaching and mentoring between the County government and corporate CEOs and Triple Helix approach 4.Capacity build the County Forums in order to enhance County government transparency and accountability
