Christmas in Egypt By: Mariah and Jessie

Songs and Music Egyptians would listen to We Wish You a Merry Christmas. And mostly just other regular Christmas songs.

Clothes Every person gets a new outfit for the Christmas Eve service at the church.

Food They eat bread, rice, garlic, boiled meat, and kaik. Their drink is something called shortbat.

When Christmas is held Christmas is held in Egypt on January 7th.

Decorations In Egypt they decorate with Christmas lights, candles, lamps, belly dancing Santa's, camel riding Santa's, Santa hats with blinking lights, and Nativity sets.

Christmas in the past In the mamluk times the streets were decorated with lamps. Candles were everywhere! Also a wonderful establishment called Mena House would dress for Christmas. The whole floor was turned into a winter scene with artificial snow and frosted trees and plants. Also log fires would burn merrily in the many fireplaces.

Language In Egypt they would speak Egyptian obviously. They would write like our pictures shown on the side. These are called hieroglyphics. The picture in the middle is from an Egyptian tomb.

Where Egypt is located It is located on the other side of the world of course. Just kidding. It is located in northern Africa.

Extra The Christmas tree was actually born in Egypt. Much of the Christmas celebration actually occurs in the last week leading up to Christmas. They have performances in the streets along with fire shows. Christmas is a public holiday for Christians in Egypt. The Egyptians would use these coins that are shown on the side to buy Christmas presents. Egyptian people probably honored their pharaoh instead of God.
