Bioinstrumentation Group Portable, Accurate ECG Machine ECE 4007, L02 Edward Kigwana, Team Leader Romaric Lolo Jinwook Flakes Albert Emery

Introduction Portable ECG machines are useful for quick, easy monitoring of heart rhythms However, most systems on the market are very expensive, very bulky, or have an inadequate sampling rate for accurate diagnosis We plan to build a device which is not only accurate, but small and affordable Prospective Buyers: Hospitals, doctor’s offices, the military

Project Goals Easy, 5 button operation Show accurate, noise-free ECG signal on a monitor attached to the device Ability to view data on a PC for further storage and analysis Battery operated, with at least four hours of life Weighs less than two pounds Costs under $800

Technical Specifications

System Architecture

Design (analog) Electrodes/leads Pre-amplifiers Filters (high pass, low pass, notch) Differential amplifier Circuit for ESD protection

Design (digital) PIC32 80 MHz Microchip microcontroller - capable of processing 32-bit data - built in USB, I2C, SPI interfaces 2 daisy-chained A/D converters LCD display

Project Demonstration 12 electrodes will be placed on the subject’s chest, arms, and legs The operator will activate the ECG device by pressing “on” and initiate data capture by pressing “start” An ECG signal will be displayed on the LCD: The operator will demonstrate how to import the data to a PC for long-term storage The operator will deactivate the ECG device by pressing “stop”
