3 FOR STUDENTS RECEIVING SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES, OUR TRANSITION COORDINATOR WILL PROVIDING ADDITIONAL SUPPORT IN THE COLLEGE/CAREER PLANNING PROCESS  Available to assist students develop realistic college & career goals  Provide information on accommodations available at the post-secondary level – “what school is best for my son/daughter?”  Discuss IEPs with students & how they will impact students going forth  Assist students in exploring career options & opportunities, including part-time employment  Instruction on self-advocacy Mrs. Alison Donoghue, Transition Coordinator

The Common Application May be completed online and sent electronically to approximately 400 schools May be used to save time from having to complete each college’s individual application Allows counselor and teacher to submit recommendations electronically to all common application schools 8

9 The student must… Complete and return the following by June 2012: Senior Questionnaire Resume Transcript Release Form Parent Brag Sheet Provide a large manila envelope, stamped & addressed to each college if the college does not accept the counselor’s portion of the application electronically Place 3 stamps on each envelope Please give counselor two weeks advance notice

12 Teacher Recommendations Two Teacher Recommendations Students must speak with their teachers about recommendations by June Students will then login to Naviance and request a letter of recommendation from each teacher after speaking to him/her personally Students should follow up with their teachers in September and update them regarding application list and deadlines

13 Teacher Recommendations If the recommendation cannot be sent electronically then: Students Must Provide Teachers With: A Teacher Recommendation Form A white business size envelope, addressed to each college admissions office and stamped (one stamp – SEE NEXT SLIDE) A list of colleges & deadlines
