Graduation Requirements: Reviewed during Instructional Focus On the LCHS website – click on counselor If you have any questions about your classes, please see Mrs. Royals as soon as possible!!!

Your Responsibilities Look at your transcript and complete a check sheet (you can find both of these documents online). Make sure you are scheduled for everything you need in order to graduate Stay on top of all deadlines: testing, admissions for colleges you are interested in Ask questions and follow up if you have questions or concerns

What if I need to make up credits? Make up any credits as soon as possible Credit recovery is during IF this year If you are waiting on a credit recovery spot to open, I would strongly recommend you attending night school Don’t wait until the last minute

Senior Opportunities/Privileges Mandatory Study Hall – Grades and Behavior Referrals are checked every 9 weeks Make sure you are where you are supposed to be! Must leave campus during early release – cannot wander halls!

College Choices: You should know by now which colleges to which you will be applying Go to to search colleges Go to college websites, read the application Put all application deadlines and financial aid deadlines on your calendar Develop a timeline Visit college campuses – get NI requests from Mrs. Walker in the Guidance Office Come to…

College Night – October 21! Probe College Fair: 6:00 PM in the LCHS Gym Meet with college admissions counselors from various colleges Great opportunity to network/ get information

SAT and ACT: If you plan to attend a 4-year college, you must take one of these tests. SAT – ACT – If you have not yet taken one of these tests, you should take the test as soon as possible Test dates and registration deadlines available in the Guidance Office and on the SAT/ACT websites LCHS will no longer put SAT/ACT score on transcripts Have your scores sent directly to colleges

Compass: Test used for admission to a technical college and/or a junior college For Albany Tech: See Mrs. Brendel in the Career Center for more information or contact Albany Technical College For Darton: Test is administered at Darton College. Contact the testing center to schedule a time.

ASVAB: Test used for entry into the military Test will be administered at LCHS – listen to announcements for test date Test can be taken with a military recruiter – contact them for more information

Sending Transcripts to Colleges in Georgia: Go to Log in to your account Click on College Planning tab Click on Applications and Transcript Select the college(s) If you do not enter your social security number when you create your gacollege411 account, you cannot send your transcript this way

Sending Transcripts to Out-of State Schools: See Mrs. Walker in the Guidance Office Fill out the information on the clipboard You must include the complete address of the college

Letters of Recommendation: Ask at least two weeks in advance Provide the person you are asking with your resume Great resume example on the LCHS Counselor website – click on Useful Links Provide the complete address of where the recommendation is to be sent Provide the deadline

Scholarships: The LCHS Guidance Newsletter is updated frequently It is posted on the LCHS website –click on Counselor – Scholarship Information – Available Scholarships You may search for scholarships at or other scholarship search websites Visit the financial aid page of colleges that you are applying to for information Apply early and watch deadlines!

FAFSA Free Application for Federal Student Aid Used to apply for scholarships, grants and loans Submit FAFSA as early as possible Earliest date is January 1, 2016 Apply at

HOPE: There is a power point slide show on the LCHS website detailing HOPE requirements Information about calculating your HOPE GPA is on the LCHS website – click on Counselor, then Scholarships Brochures are available in the Guidance Office - run by GSFC – get your HOPE gpa and everything HOPE on this website

Applying for HOPE: (transitioning to GA Futures) Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)through gacollege411 will reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the process Check with the college you are going to attend to make sure you are completing the applications they require

STAR Student: Student with the highest SAT score at one sitting – Math, Critical Reading and Writing combined Last date to qualify is the November 7 test

LCHS Honor Graduates: Must have a 3.9 weighted academic GPA AP courses – add 1 full point to the 4 point scale Honors courses – add 1/2 point to the 4 point scale Honors with Distinction: Must have a 3.9 weighted academic GPA and must have taken six honors level courses in grades 9-12 (at least one must have been an AP class) Valedictorian and Salutatorian – must meet the requirements for Honors with Distinction

Applying for Early Action at UGA? UGA’s deadline is October 15 You must apply by October 5, so that I can submit all counselor evaluations by the deadline!

Regular College Admissions: Deadlines vary from college to college Check with each college to which you are applying – write all deadlines on your calendar
