Tenleytown Main Street  Thanks to Councilmember Cheh, the District’s 2016 budget includes start-up funding for two new Main Street programs, Tenleytown and Van Ness.  The Main Street Program was created in 1980 by National Trust for Historic Preservation to help communities preserve and revitalize their commercial districts.  There are more than 2,000 Main Street programs which rehabilitate older commercial districts and work to attract new investment, jobs and businesses.  Currently, eight Main Street programs in DC: Barracks Row; Congress Heights; Deanwood Heights; Dupont Circle; H Street; North Capitol; Shaw; and Rhode Island Avenue.

Main Street Four Point Approach®  Like all Main Streets Programs, Tenleytown Main Street will be based on the Main Street Four Point Approach®  Organization. Build partnerships among commercial and community stakeholders to manage and advocate for Tenleytown Main Street.  Promotion. Tell the story of Tenleytown Main Street, its architecture, history and culture to shoppers, investors and potential business and property owners.  Design. Foster an inviting environment for shoppers, workers and visitors with signage, landscaping, art and public spaces.  Economic Restructuring. Strengthen Tenleytown’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. Create a balanced commercial mix and attract new businesses that the market can support.
