Lesson 14 Feedback from assessment To look at more clips from The Vicar of Dibley with the view to evidencing views on women in the church. To begin to research religion- specific broadcasting and to identify its key features.

Independent learning task for term 2 – Due in Monday 14 th December (hard copy please) Research and write up in detail a case-study about euthanasia/assisted suicide. Include facts, images, newspaper commentaries and conclude with your own views about the merits of that particular case.

Assessment Generic advice: Try to identify trigger words – what is the question asking you (that will stop you over-writing!) I am still looking for evidence of academic research (if you wrote about The Simpsons, there should have been a credited reference to ‘The Gospel according to…’) The seconds part is like an f question/debate – offer two points of view with evidence and a reasoned conclusion. Should you, in any question, find yourself taking about tv being potentially offensive – refer to Mary Whitehouse. Be prepared to talk about two soaps/three episodes/ four characters and always, always be able to identify them in a context For example: This summer a major theme in Eastenders has been…. In Eastenders a few years back, the character Dot Cotton was used to explore the issues relating to euthanasia…

Vicar of Dibley scenes… Episodes: The Arrival Animals The Window and the Weather Summer

‘Religion-specific broadcasting’ Google this phrase and come up with a good definition. Make a list of at least ten programmes on television that have a specifically religious theme. Songs of praise is one to get you started.

Lesson 15 To recognise the features of religious specific broadcasting. To begin to consider its effectiveness in presenting beliefs and practices about religion.
