Software Copyright Laws Under the Copyright Law, computer software is defined as a Literary Work ( Ideas and facts are not eligible for copyright protection ( If a work has not been copyright protected or a copyright has expired, the work becomes Public Domain and is free for use by anyone ( A copyright provide authors protection by law for the exclusive right of their original work for a certain period of time (

Software Piracy It is acceptable for Libraries to make copies of software for archival purposes ( Software licenses depict how many times a software can be installed ( 23% of all business software in the United States is unlicensed ( Any violation of a software license in considered Software Piracy ( 48/)

Software Purchasing Agreements As long as you do not install a computer program more than the license allows, you may install it in different classrooms, as long as the number of concurrent users do not exceed the number of licenses purchased ( Software developers retain ownership of an application even though someone has purchased it ( There are two types of software licenses which regulate the number of users who are able to access a software program: concurrent users and named users ( Software vendor can make provisions in the license deal that allows them to verify if the license terms are compiled with (
