Safe Website Design

Hey Everybody My name is Tek. I’m going to be your guide today! I’m a part of i-SAFE America. i- SAFE is concerned with teaching you how to be safe online. We want you to recognize and avoid dangerous, destructive or unlawful online behavior. Also, we hope to empower you to communicate what you learn from i-SAFE with others.

All right – Let’s talk Empowerment Remember - Empowerment means you own what you learn and can use it to teach others and make a difference.

So not only are you learning and sharing, you are getting rewarded for doing so! i-SAFE includes an empowerment activity in every lesson. By completing the activity you may be eligible for neat incentives and prizes. Check it out at – Click on the link to contests and Incentives. Empowerment is the Key to Learning!

The Plan For this lesson you will be furthering your knowledge on how to safely design a website. You will be evaluating a sample website for safety tips.

All Right – Let’s Get Started Today we’re going to start with a discussion. Let’s see if you can answer these questions! Take time to discuss them as a class.

Question 1 Why do some people build personal websites? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

Question 2 How many of you have your own website? What do you include on your site? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

Question 3 If you were designing your ideal personal website – what would it include? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

Question 4 What are some common components of personal websites? Take a moment to discuss as a class.

Question 5 What are potential dangers of having a personal website? Brainstorm some dangers! Discuss as a class.

It’s time to look at your activity sheets. Then let’s continue on

All right – Does everyone have an Activity Sheet? Good! Your task today is to review a website for safety. You will either have a paper copy of Trina’s webpage or you will access it on your computer. What did Trina do wrong with her website? Take a look and then we’ll meet back here.
