10/21/20151 INFLUENZA VACCINATIONS- KNOW THE FACTS NWACC

10/21/20152 Introduction Working with the VA Hospital in Northwest Arkansas, to find out the number of patients who received flu vaccinations, as well as state some common facts about the flu.

10/21/20153 Contacts Washington County VA Hospital Judy McKee Office of Public Affairs Kate Davis Primary Care ext. 5486

10/21/20154 What is a Flu Vaccination? A flu vaccination is an inactivated vaccine containing a killed virus. Each vaccine contains three influenza viruses. The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance, and scientists’ estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate each given year.

10/21/20155 How is a flu vaccine administered? The most common form of flu vaccinations are shots. Nasal spray flu vaccinations are another example, these are made from live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu.

10/21/20156 VA patients who received flu vaccines 45,000 VETERANS The VA received 25,000 vaccinations to give out to patients. The VA hospital gave out 18,216 flu vaccinations to its patients. There were about 7,300 patients seen for the flu.

10/21/20157 HYPOTHESIS We feel that flu shots are very effective in combating the flu virus during the height of the flu season. We also feel that this project will help people make an informed decision about flu vaccines.
