One of the most important factors that should be taken in consideration in the site, (from engineering point view), is the safety and health management. Safety and health management; is considered as a progress measure of the engineering and construction companies. 2

3 Safety: The condition or state of being safe; freedom from danger or hazard; exemption from hurt, injury, or loss.

Hazard: A condition with the potential of causing or contributing to an accident or illness. 4

The different Safety 5

Rules in construction area under safety outline: knowing hazards and how to avoid them.  this mean know Construction Activity / Corresponding Hazard Identification and activity classification with respect to hazard. 6

Occupational Safety & Health Administration  An organization that interests in achieving and applying safety factors in the construction field.  It deals with the identification and control of environmental and personal hazards in the work place. 7

OBJECTIVE OF S&H MANAGEMENT Minimize losses – Avoid injuries – Avoid OSHA fines – Avoid litigation Development and implementation of S&H program is key to good management 8

UNIQUE FACTORS IN CONSTRUCTION AFFECTING S&H 9  Large but diverse and fragmented industry  every job is unique with numerous complex tasks  Labor intensive work involving large forces  Complex contractual arrangements leading to multi- employer projects

HOW SAFETY SAVES MONEY 10  Economic impacts  Direct and indirect accident costs  Workers compensation and EMR  Accident cost accounting

Result 11  Accidents can be tragic and costly.  Safety and health programs prevent injuries and fatalities, and save money  Effective program organization and implementation will help achieve OSHA compliance and lead to success at corporate and project levels.
