Ashley Falls: Bully Free Definitions. What should you do? Possible Consequences.

Physical Bullying Definition: Harmful actions against another person’s body. – Examples include: Kicking, pushing, pinching, hitting, tripping, or any form of violence or intimidation

Verbal Bullying Definition: Repeatedly speaking to a person or about a person in an unkind or hurtful way. – Examples include: Sarcasm, teasing, put-downs, name-calling, spreading rumors or hurtful gossip.

Cyber Bullying Definition: The use of the Internet and related technologies (phones) to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. – Examples include: Texts, cruel or untrue posts to Facebook or MySpace, etc…

True or False? Bullies will go away if you ignore them. True and False It’s tattling to tell an adult when you’re being bullied. False Just using words that hurt someone’s feelings can’t be bullying. False

True or False? The best way to deal with a bully is by fighting or trying to get even. False Bullying only happens at school. False Bully problems can be solved by a teacher. True and False People who are bullied might have hurt feelings for a while, but they’ll “get over it”. False

True or False? Bullying includes leaving someone out of a group activity. True Nobody deserves to be bullied. True Bullying happens to everyone and is normal. False There’s nothing you can do about a bully. False

If you are being bullied try… Walking away to avoid arguing or fighting. Find another person to hang out with. Stay near a friend. If you are a bystander, be a friend by using appropriate strategies to stop the bully or tell an adult about what you are witnessing.

More Strategies Suggested responses to the bully: A firm “No” or “Stop Now”; “I don’t like being pushed/teased/insulted so please stop.” Be confident in yourself! ALWAYS TELL AN ADULT if the bully continues, or if you get hurt.
