History of Hindi By: Shiksha Mahtani

There are several hundred different dialects spoken in India The Union Government of Republic of India made their official language “Standard Hindi” making it the official language of India The Constitution of India states that “The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.” English is known as the secondary official language…. Spoken alongside Hindi and various dialects. The constitution has instituted both English and Hindi as the two languages to be used for communication by the Federal government. Official Language.

Hindi is based off of Delhi’s dialect: khadiboli During the Mughal Empire, khadiboli became a popularly used dialect and eventually transformed into the language known as Urdu (“the language of the court”) The Hindutva movement (a movement seeking the creation of a Hindu state) officially formed Hindi as a separate language to Urdu, in the late 19 th century. The first state of India to accept Hindi as their official language, replacing Urdu, was Bihar. History.

Language/Grammar. As stated by Article 351 of the Indian Constitution, Hindi received much of its’ vocabulary from Sanskrit (the ancient language of India). However, today it is written in Devanagari Script.
