Presentation transcript:

GMS Physical Education THE PROGRAM Each child in the GMS physical education program will be required to participate in a variety of activities that are physical in nature. Various sports, lifelong games and lifetime activities will be part of the experience. Responsibility, participation, dressing for class, and the child’s attitude/behavior will be the four essential components for success in the program. Physical skill, capability, or talent are not requirements. All children will have the opportunity to test and challenge their physical capabilities through fun-filled undertakings. Evaluation of all students will be done on an individual basis. No comparisons or competitions will be conducted. Students will be asked to challenge themselves to improve over the course of the class. They will be exposed to activities that will give them the tools to make positive choices about healthy physical activities that will last a lifetime. IN THE GYM: 1. You must flip your assigned number, be properly dressed, in your squad, and ready to participate 5 minutes after the tardy bell has rung. 2. Listen and follow directions the first time. “I did not know” is not an excuse. 3. The gym is a closed environment; no one will leave unless given permission. 4. Respect yourself, your teacher, and others at all times. 5. Remove jewelry/watches. 6. The balcony and bleachers are off limits to students at all times. 7. A written excuse from a parent/ guardian or doctor is required if unable to participate in one class period due to illness or injury. 8. A doctor’s note is required if you are unable to participate in PE for an extended period of time due to injury / illness. ( 2 + days ) 9. Gum, pop, food, and candy are prohibited in the gym area and locker rooms. 10. Showers are not required but are suggested. LOCKER ROOMS 1. Horseplay = injuries. It will not be tolerated. This infraction will result in immediate loss of all points possible for the day and reassignment of changing location. (45 points possible) 2. Locks are not provided. Please feel free to bring a your own lock to secure your items during class. You can purchase a lock from the office if you do not have your own. ($6) Mr. Lapciuk – Coach L.

WHAT TO WEAR 1. Sport-type shoes with “no-scuff” bottoms. (Gym shoes only!) 2. T-shirts and sweatshirts may be worn. 3. Sport-type, loose fitting shorts, sweat pants, or pajama pants are required. ( No yoga pants please ) 4. Students who are not dressed will still be required to participate, depending on the activity, and will lose dressing points for that day. YOUR GRADE Participation/Daily Grade = 100% You begin the trimester with 200 points. You control your own destiny by not checking in, by not dressing for class, by not participating in all activities, and by conducting yourself out of the norm of expected behavior. Not checking in each day………..-5pts Not dressing for activity………..-10 pts Not participating……………...…-10pts Negative attitude or behavior that is detrimental to the learning environment……-20pts GMS Physical Education Pride and Excellence
