Employer listings indicate qualifications sought, benefits offered, and career path details. ($16.95 list price.) JOB CHOICES for Science, Engineering, & Technology Students

Encourage Students to Watch for Special Interest Summer Camps (enlist your counselors’ help)  Colleges and universities, science and technology centers, ITEST projects, aquariums and zoos often hold sessions for middle school students.  Encouraging students to get into these programs can make a difference in how they see themselves.

Encourage Students to Watch for Internship Opportunities (counselors can help here, too)  A variety of organizations offer internship opportunities for high school students, especially girls and students from underrepresented groups.  Letting middle school students know about these can keep them motivated to pursue science and math coursework.

A Google search for “high school summer internship” turned up a variety of opportunities

Keep reminding students: You’ll all have a job someday, it ought to be something you love.  Students can benefit from whatever you do that gets them thinking about having a career someday.  Encouraging them to take as much math, science, and technology as possible will keep the most doors open to them.
