Unemployment Today  As of March 2012 officially there were 12,673,000 people unemployed.  Was 13,628,000 in March 2011.

Why? Many U.S. workers are losing their jobs due to lack of qualifications. There are increases in skill mismatches across America.

What needs to be done. The government should put more money towards educating and retraining workers. The government should put more money towards educating and retraining workers.

Why Skill Mismatches are Increasing.  The increasing number of high school drop outs increases skill mismatch rates.  High school dropouts will likely go unemployed.

Shortage in qualified workers More school dropouts means less workers that qualify for high end jobs. More school dropouts means less workers that qualify for high end jobs. The number of middle and lower end jobs in America have been decreasing. The number of middle and lower end jobs in America have been decreasing.

Education and training is also important to already employed workers. Doctors, pilots, psychiatrists and contractors must improve their skills constantly. Doctors, pilots, psychiatrists and contractors must improve their skills constantly.

Even the military is experiencing a shortage of qualified recruits. Also military veterans who come back are unemployed!

Why? Many military jobs require specific skills that non-military jobs don’t need. Many employers look at 8 years of military service as eight years with out private sector skills and experience.

Solutions The government should put more money to retraining unemployed veterans, and workers. Increase funding to schools and colleges Put more money to making employment agencies.

Helping the unemployed find work ► The youth should be given some assistance in finding jobs they qualify for. ► We need more employment agencies like This to reduce unemployment.

What you can do. Stay in school and graduate Go to college Utilize the local resources to find a job like.
