Mrs. Hardtke (Heart-Key)

 When the seating chart reaches you, please write your name, as you want to be called.  On your note card, write:  Name  address you actually check  I like it when teachers:  I hate it when teachers:  Your honest feelings about science (especially 9 th grade) I’ll come by and get them later!

 10 th year of teaching (Eastlake, Renton, Here)  Inquiry 10 and AP Environmental Science  Bachelor’s in Biology from Whitman College, Masters in Teaching from U.W.  Two kids- Tyson (5) and Robyn (3)  1 dog, 2 cats  Favorite things: eating (almost anything), socializing, sports, celebrity gossip, trips

 Please introduce yourself to your lab group (based on playing cards), and share the best and worst thing you did this summer  I’ll make a seating chart next week  Done? Pick up a lab book out of the red crate (unless you brought your own)

 Name and class period on the front  Page 1- Title it “Warm-Ups”  Flip about 1/3 of the way through  Label “Notes”  Flip about 2/3 of the way through  Label “Labs, etc.” No need for table of contents, page #’s. Distinguish sections with post-its, etc.

 Bring it everyday  Pay the bookkeeper (Frances Wood) $2 by next Friday, 9/11 and bring me the receipt (HW assignment)  Keep your sections separate or…. I’ll dye my hair strawberry blonde? No…I’ll go crazy.

 Purpose: for me to determine your science skillz!  But first…who got sick last year? What did you have?  Did you know that hand-washing is the best prevention?

 HOW should we wash our hands to prevent illness?  Germ Glow Lotion = pretend bacteria, viruses, dirt, oils  Don’t look at the UV light  Don’t lick your hands  Question: does washing your hands for a longer period of time increase effectiveness?

 With your group, on 11x14 paper:  All four names (first and last)  Question: does washing your hands for a longer period of time increase effectiveness?  Hypothesis  Flowchart of procedure (example on board)  Data Table  Conclusion You are not graded on accuracy- this is a pre-test! BTW you can try different methods of hand- washing instead of time…your choice!

 Read the syllabus and safety contract and get them signed
