What is ESEA ?  The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) is a United States federal statue enacted April 11,  It was passed as a part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s "War on Poverty" and has been the most far-reaching federal legislation affecting education ever passed by Congress Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator

The Purpose of Title I The purpose of Title I is to provide supplemental resources and services to high poverty schools, to migratory children and families, and to institutions serving neglected and delinquent children and youth.

The Federal Government… Provides funds to states each year for Title I based on U.S. census poverty data. State Education Agencies… Send the money to school districts based on the number of families that receive free and reduced lunch. Send in a plan describing: high-quality standards that children are expected to meet ways their progress will be measured how Title I funds will help children meet expectations The Local School Districts (LEAs)… Identifies eligible schools and distribute the funds.

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator Title I helps …………… Children be more successful in school. Parents have a voice in their child’s education and gives them tools and resources necessary to help their child academically and establish a “learning environment” in the home. Teachers realize the contributions of parents to their child’s education and work with them to raise the student achievement for their child.

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator What will Title I do for your child? The Title I program will provide your child with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom.

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator Title I programs generally offer: Smaller classes or special instructional spaces Additional teachers and/or paraprofessionals Opportunities for professional development for school staff Extra time for teaching Title I students the skills they need A variety of supplementary teaching methods An individualized program for students Additional teaching materials which supplement a student’s regular instruction

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator Approximately, 1% of the District’s Title I budget is allocated for Parent Involvement. Approximately, 1% of your school’s Title I budget is allocated for parent involvement.

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator Title I Needs Parents’ Help to… Determine goals for the program plan and carry out goals evaluate programs volunteer at the school, and attend curriculum nights, academic workshops, etc., in order to have more information and tools to help their child at home.

District Parent Involvement Plan – The District writes a plan that helps parents have more information about parent involvement on the district level. The Parent-School Compact – states the goals and responsibilities of school, parents and students. School Parent Involvement Plan – helps parents understand and take part in what the school is doing. This includes planning parent activities that will benefit you and your child. Online Parent Survey-Please take time to complete our online parent survey. District Parent Advisory Team -If you would like to attend the meeting in March please let us know.

2015 Annual Parent Meeting Denise Atwell, Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator Parents Have the Right To Know This information was sent in a letter to all parents at the start of school. 1.Parents have the right to know the professional qualifications of their children’s teacher and paraprofessional. 2.Parents have the right to know when their child is taught be a non-highly qualified teacher for 4 or more consecutive weeks. 3.Parents have the right to know their child’s performance rating on the state assessment.

The Compacts are provided as a way for our staff, students and parents to share the responsibility of academic achievement. A copy of the compact is in the front of your child’s agenda. $4,046 has been provided for Parent Involvement for the school year.

Ways to volunteer or be involved at your school: ●First, become an Approved Volunteer! * MEETING ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 TH IN THE MEDIA WITH MRS. Curriculum information for each subject is located at: The following statewide assessments will be administered in the 2015–2016 school year: FLORIDA STANDARDS ASSESSMENTS : The Florida Standards Assessments, which measure student success with the Florida Standards, include assessments in English language arts (grades 3- 11), mathematics (grades 3-8), and end-of-course assessments for Algebra 1,Geometry, and Algebra 2. STATEWIDE SCIENCE ASSESSMENT : The statewide science assessment measures student success with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and includes assessments in grades 5 and 8. EOC ASSESSMENTS : The End-of-Course Assessments are computer- based tests designed to measure student achievement of the specified standards for middle- and high-school level courses in science (Biology 1), social studies (Civics and U.S. History), and mathematics (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2).
