THE WINDMILLS OF CAMPOS

Wind, animal traction an waterwheel mills can be dind in many lozations of the islands. Actually, they have lost their initial function even thouhg they have an important heritage value as evidence of the economical, social and cultural past of Mallorca.

THE WINDMILLS OF CAMPOS In Mallorca the Scarce rainfalls explain that on the island we do not have rivers. That is the reason why mills use subterranean or torrent water. In order to use this water, millers have build a system to take and keep the running water. A big wheel transforms running water into energy to move the mill.

THE WINDMILLS OF CAMPOS

The wind moves the wheel wich at the same time moves the connecting-rod. A verticcal moviment is produced –upwards and downwards- and this movement sets a water pump in the motion.

THE WINDMILLS OF CAMPOS

Is not always nwdessary to use the whole wind power. If the arms wheel spin faster than 30 times per minute, the water could not work properly. In order to control the speed one could use the so called scissors or to take an arm away.
