 Tava-pache-pache Afterwords to Srila Prabhupada’s Nectar of Instruction by Hanumatpresaka Swami and the Anjana Suta Academy.

Founder – He has made the foundation for ISKCON. We must build on that but not change it. In the NoI we will find many statements about what is the foundation of ISKCON. Acharya – He teaches by his example. He practices what he preaches.

Founder-Acharya This is the title that Srila Prabhupada adamantly and repeatedly demanded for himself in ISKCON.

The Nectar of Instruction Preface The Kr ̣ s ̣ n ̣ a consciousness movement is conducted under the supervision of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī. The Gaud ̣ īya Vais ̣ n ̣ avas, or Bengali Vais ̣ n ̣ avas, are mostly followers of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, of whom the six Gosvāmīs of Vr ̣ ndāvana are direct disciples. Therefore Śrīla Narottama dāsa T ̣ hākura has sung: rūpa-raghunātha-pade ha-ibe ākuti kabe hāma bujhaba se yugala-pīriti

Preface Writer’s Guide The book’s Preface should explain: A.The purpose of the book. B.Under what circumstances it is being produced. C.What are the qualifications of the author. D.What qualifications are expected of the reader. Can you find these in the NOI Preface?

Preface The first two paragraphs of the NOI Preface are a preface, but the second two paragraphs are an introduction. What does it introduce?

Text One Control your Senses?

Preface In the NOI preface we find a parampara. a.Sri Krsna b.Srimati Radharani c.Gopis d.Lord Caitanya e.Srila Rupa Goswami f.Six Goswamis g.Srila Narottama Das h.Gaudiya Vaisnavas i.Us

Do you see how detailed and deep is Srila Prabhupada’s consciousness? Just on the cover, just in the Preface, there is so much to see.

Therefore Śrīla Narottama dāsa T ̣ hākura has sung: rūpa-raghunātha-pade ha-ibe ākuti kabe hāma bujhaba se yugala-pīriti If we investigate just this one citation (as it seems we should do for all the NOI citations) then we discover so many things. It seems that the citations are not just any citations, but THE citation that the Acharya’s use to illustrate, support, the topic under discussion. This citation from Narottama dasa Thakura is from his songbook Prarthana, but not just any song, the first song, and furthermore it is one of only two, or maybe three, songs that Srila Prabhupada cites completely in all of his books. This is one is cited in Caitanya-caritamta Adi-lila, Chapter Seven.

This one is the song starting, “ Gauranga bolite habe …”, and the other one is, “ Narada muni bhajai vina …” in Canto Six. This “ Gauranga bolite …” is a summary of our whole philosophy, our whole path. That is quite appropriate since it is the first song in Prarthana. We memorized it, have lectured and given seminars on it. We see Prabhupada using it again and again, and we can appreciate more and more the context and content of how he uses it. You do that too!

Śrī Caitanya Caritāmr ̣ ta Ādi 7.17 gaurāńga balite habe pulaka śarīra hari hari balite nayane ba'be nīra āra kabe nitāicāńda karun ̣ ā karibe samsāra-vāsanā mora kabe tuccha habe vis ̣ aya chād ̣ iyā kabe śuddha habe mana kabe hāma heraba śrī-vr ̣ ndāvana rūpa-raghunātha-pade ha-ibe ākuti kabe hāma bujhaba śrī-yugala-pirīti

"When will there be eruptions on my body as soon as I chant the name of Lord Caitanya, and when will there be incessant torrents of tears as soon as I chant the holy names Hare Kr ̣ s ̣ n ̣ a? When will Lord Nityānanda be merciful toward me and free me from all desires for material enjoyment? When will my mind be completely freed from all contamination of desires for material pleasure? Only at that time will it be possible for me to understand Vr ̣ ndāvana. Only if I become attached to the instructions given by the six Gosvāmīs, headed by Rūpa Gosvāmī and Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī, will it be possible for me to understand the conjugal love of Rādhā and Kr ̣ s ̣ n ̣ a."

Well, we hope this gives you more of a handle on Srila Prabhupada’s NOI. Maybe we can do some of the other Texts, but even if not, please appreciate the depth and value of even this one book of Srila Prabhupada, which “constitutes first instructions for neophyte devotees”. Anjana Suta Academy
