Outline Types of CASE Tools Definition of Form & Report Generators Purpose of Form & Report Generator Tools Advantages & Disadvantages Example of software Summary References

Types of CASE Tools Diagramming tools Computer display and report generators Analysis tools Central repository Documentation generators Code generators

Definition Form & Report Generators: CASE tools that support the creation of system forms and report in order to prototype how the systems will “look like and feel” to users. Form and Report Generators are considered an Upper CASE Tools:  which are use primarily to support the project identification and selection, project initiation and planning, analysis, and design phases of the SDLC.

Purpose of Form & Report Generators Two primary purposes:  The creation, modification, and testing of prototypes of computer display form and report.  The identifications of data items to display or collect for each form or report.

Advantages Vs. Disadvantages Advantages:  Provides new systems with less time.  Improve the productivity of the systems development process  Improve quality of the system development process  Improve work skills  Improve management of the system development process

Advantages Vs. Disadvantages Disadvantages:  High cost of purchasing  High cost of training personnel  Lack of methodology standards with the organizations  Organizations see it as threat to job security  Lack of confidence in system by organizations

User involvement Ease the system implementation. Users are more familiar with the system. Involved user required less training rather than un- involved users. Positive impression of meeting their needs. As a system analyst; enable them to understand the user requirements more efficiently.

Example of the Form & Report tool software DBxtra Software : Empowers non-technical users to easily design reports without reliance on developers. Version DBxtra Released: March 24, Size 14 MB Price List ComparingGenerators generators.doc
