Goals of New Standards Provide students with a skillset that prepares them for successful employment and on going education Provide Flexibility of courses Increase depth and academic rigor of our standards and courses to ensure quality programs Reinstate content eliminated from the prior set of standards and courses Develop high quality end of course exams Establish a FCS Pathway

Format of the NEW Design Technical Content Standards Course & Unit Descriptions Strand: Strands are large content areas under which multiple outcomes are organized. »Includes a concise description that captures multiple, broad areas of learner knowledge and skills expected across the strand and, to the extent possible, the multiple outcomes under the strand. Outcome: »Outcomes are overreaching statements that summarizes the knowledge and skills described in the overall set of individual competencies that follow. Competency: essential knowledge or skill »Competencies are specific statements of essential knowledge or skill to be learned in the components of the pathway program.

Structure of New FCS Content Standards Structure of Standards: –Strands Outcome Competencies Example:

Why Courses? Expanded opportunities for flexible program design. Consistency of programming and learning. More transparent and understandable to stakeholders. Supports Ohio’s teacher evaluation system.

Moving from Courses towards Content Focused Structures Program of Study can stay in focus area such as Food and Nutrition or Environmental Design or be a generalist and select courses across focus area Provide students structure for future career interest (Interior Design, Culinary Arts)

Family and Consumer Sciences Business Rules Implemented for the school year and fully implemented by courses must be offered in a program Course option: –5 course- 9 week to semester –13 course- Semester to year long courses

CTE End-of-Course Assessments Test Item Writing Begins September 29 th EOC will be piloted next fall Pretest and Post-test will be developed All courses will have a test, excluding GRADS No test are offered for middle school at this time Depth of Knowledge End of Course tests are required the year they are available in FY 18

Career Development Event Policy Ohio FCCLA Career Development Events will align to the Ohio Career Technical Standards, courses and pathways for family and consumer sciences and related career fields Ohio FCCLA Career Development Events will be designed to have students perform tasks at no less than the minimum level of the competency standards aligned for the respective event Ohio FCCLA Career Development Events will be validated by industry partners
