Presentation transcript:

Why a team approach? Who is on the team? Why should the Physical Education teacher be on the team ? The Team Approach

Why a team approach? All children have multiple needs. Different professionals provide information about the child that is helpful for all to know. Sharing knowledge about the students helps all professionals to see the whole child.

Why a team approach? Professionals are more informed about alternative strategies and techniques that can help the child be successful. Skills, knowledge and behaviors the student is learning can be applied in a variety of settings.

Who is on the team? Classroom Teacher Principal School Nurse Social Worker Physical Therapist Speech Therapist Occupational Therapist Audiologist Orientation and Mobility Specialist Physical Education Teacher Vision Specialist Parent(s) or Guardian(s) Paraprofessional Drama Teacher Music Teacher Art Teacher

Why should the Physical Education teacher be on the team? IDEA requires all children diagnosed with a disability to have an IEP (Individual Education Program/Plan) Physical Education must be part of the IEP Consultation with other professionals provides a broader understanding of the student’s needs and abilities.

Why should the Physical Education teacher be on the team? The PE teacher can use techniques and strategies used by other professionals to provide consistency for the student. The PE teacher offers to the team information about the content taught in the curriculum. Share successes with all professionals and parents.
