Presentation transcript:

 Body language such as facial expression and gestures are very common in our life, we often send them subconsciously together with our expression. We can know the attitude or state of mind of a person through his/her body language.

 We always make V sign when we are posing for photographs with no intended meaning. It is commonly interpret as the sign of “victory” and “peace” when showing with palm outward, but when it shows with palm inward, it could mean offensive in some other countries.

 We are always taught to not beckoning others with index finger because it is impolite. It is better to beckon with the whole palm when you want to ask and call someone.

 We will not pay much attention if we pass something to someone with one hand or not, but in Japan, it is very rude to pass something with one hand even just a small item. In addition, in the Middle and Far Eastern countries, you cannot pass something with your left hand which they think it is dirty.

 We can discover that different cultures may have different interpretation of the gestures. Each gesture can have more than one interpretation, we should not judge someone by their gesture without knowing its meaning.  We need to be more careful when using gesture in order not to bring conflict.

 It is the most general expression that all the people define it as pleasure, joy and happiness. People smile not only when they are happy, but also there are many reasons for people to smile, such as anxiety, embarrassment. It can also be spontaneous or artificial.

 Anger is an automatic response to ill treatment. It is the way a person indicates he or she will not tolerate certain types of behavior. (definition from wiki)  People will make loud sounds, bare their teeth and glare when they are angry. Everyone has different reaction to anger.

 It is a strong feeling of dislike and disapproval, people feel disgust when they find highly unattractive to someone. Some will look bored and uninterested, winces, grits their teeth, etc. But some will hide their emotion in order to avoid insulting someone.

 We can know people’s attitude or status of mind through their face. Different people have different expressions with different emotions. Some are good at hiding their emotions, we can’t exactly know what they are thinking about, some may straightly express their emotions on their face. Sometimes we will falsely read people’s emotions because we do not understand their personality.
