In 1839, Reverend Lord lived in the history house with his wife and ten children. In 1864, Mrs.AbbyTilton moved in with her two daughters. Abby Tilton died in the house in The house was empty from In 1937, Louise Coburn bought the house and added on a fireproof room. She donated the house to the town. All the furnishings in the history house have been donated by local people. Above: Reverend Lord

This Doll house was made by Louise Coburn and was passed down to her niece, Velma Coburn. In the doll house, you will see a boy doll that was very rare at the time because most all the dolls were girls.

These wax flowers were made by G. A. Wilbur in the early 1870’s. His hobby was to carve objects from the wax drippings of candles.

The first sewing machine in Skowhegan was a Wheeler and Wilson It is upstairs in the house.

This is a telephone that was used in a mill in Skowhegan. Do you notice anything different about it? Well, it has two separate ear pieces in order to block out the sound of the mill while a person was talking on the phone.

This was a doctors kit owned by Abner Coburn in the early 1800’s. He was one of the first doctors in the town of Skowhegan. Incidentally, he was also a lawyer.

This wedding dress above took four years to make. People had to make their own fancy lace and sew it together carefully by hand. You should definitely have a look at it! Can you figure out which are the models and which one is me?

The above picture is what a kitchen looked like in the Early 1800’s. Long handled wooden spoons were used to avoid burning hands when cooking over a hot open fire. This kitchen captures the cozy atmosphere of the old days.

Above is a canopy bed in an upstairs room. This is also the master bedroom. In the far right of the room, is the first steam box in Skowhegan owned by Ellen Sawyer. A person would sit in it and have a steam bath. You have to see it to believe it. You may also see a beautiful dress worn by Margaret Chase Smith.

Above is a picture of a curling iron that was used in the early 1800’s. A girl would get the iron hot in the fire, and would have to be careful not to singe their hair.
