INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS BELGRADE ХВАЛА ВАМ НА ПАЖЊИ! History of IAE - Belgrade The Institute of Agricultural Economics (IAE) - Belgrade was founded by the Directive of the Federative National Republic of Yugoslavia Government in August As one of the oldest and the most respected scientific-research institution within national agriculture, it has continuously monitored the wide range of economic problems in agriculture, analysed them parallel with offer of adequate proposals for successful development of this important branch of national economy. At the beginning, Institute was engaged mainly in issues set by the former Agricultural Council, but later it started with active cooperation with cooperatives and combines, followed by intense field scientific research work. During the ’50s and ‘60s Institutes’ work was focused on regional researches, so IAE made numerous studies, plans and development programs on the national, regional and local level, mostly in less developed and mountain areas in Serbia.

In ‘70s, the IAE was engaged in applied research, particularly related to the numerous activities of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). So, numerous regional investment projects, pre- investment studies and market analyses have been realized and implemented for different stakeholders in agriculture. For the decades the Institute have taken continual participation in the realization of the Ministry of Education and Science long-term projects, as well as in the projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management. In total, more then 650 projects have been realized by the IAE during 62 years of its scientific-research work in several fields, both at macro and micro economic level.

INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS BELGRADE ХВАЛА ВАМ НА ПАЖЊИ! Capacities and activities of IAE - Belgrade Currently IAE employs 29 persons, 24 researchers and 5 persons as administration staff. Institute is settled in Belgrade city (municipality Zvezdara) and it functions as public institution within the Ministry of Education and Science. Like summery of IAE activities, next could be expressed: A) In the area of macroeconomic researches: examination of price parities in agriculture and food industry; calculation of production costs and market research in agriculture; regionalization of agricultural production and evaluation of conditions for production of organic and products with geographic origin; establishment and implementation of long-term strategies of integral development on local, regional, national and international level; etc.

B) In the area of microeconomic researches: establishment of programs and development models for family farms; assessment of capital value and establishment of restructuring programs and development strategies for enterprises in agro-complex; creation and development of marketing strategies; technological projects for agricultural production and food industry; pre-investment and investment studies, programs and feasibility studies; environmental impact evaluation; adjustment and implementation of existing systems for production, management, environmental and products quality and food safety; etc.

C) In the area of advisory, education, publishing and statistics: IAE provides assistance in defining of organizational scheme for agricultural enterprises; assistance in the process of establishment and working activities implementation for RD agencies on different levels; organization of company’s staff education and training; publishing and statistical data bases formatting for domestic users and international statistical publications; etc. As official publisher IAE published numerous monographs, thematic proceedings and books. It is also a co-publisher of three journals, one national “Economics” and two international “Economics of Agriculture” and “Transition”.

Currently IAE has excellent scientific, business and technical cooperation with many universities, faculties, institutes, companies and public institutions from the Serbia and abroad, mainly from Italy, Romania, France, Russia, Poland, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Srpska and Macedonia. Cooperation covers all field of agriculture, processing industry and economics.

References In last few years IAE mainly has been adjusted to the Republic of Serbia’s orientation toward EU integration processes, as well as to activities which are directed to establishment and implementation of developmental documents of strategic significance in agriculture that are adjusted to modern requirements. According to mentioned, for the period of last 5 years next projects are specially important for IAE-Belgrade: -Multifunctional agriculture and rural development in function of inclusion of the Republic of Serbia into the EU; and Sustainable agriculture and rural development in the function of strategic goals achievement within Danube region; both projects were funded by Ministry of Education and Science. -STAR Project under the World Bank and Ministry of Agriculture.

INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS BELGRADE ХВАЛА ВАМ НА ПАЖЊИ! -International projects within the South East-Transnational Cooperation Programme (EU WATER - Transnational integrated management of water resources in agriculture for the EU WATER emergency control and TECH.FOOD - Solutions and interventions for the technological transfer and the innovation of the agro-food sector in South East regions). Leader partner on both project was certain Institution from Italy. -Development strategy of agriculture and rural development of the Republic of Serbia for period Strategy of agriculture development of the city of Belgrade until Bilateral scientific-research project between the Serbia and Croatia - Competitiveness and comparative sustainable rural development of Istra and Kolubara region.
