Selecting Colors for Yourself

When selecting colors for yourself: Always evaluate in natural light Consider your body shape Consider your height Consider your personal coloring

Your Personal Coloring Consist of skin, hair and eyes. Each of these components can change.

Skin Tones Skin tones can vary greatly. All skin tones either have yellow or blue undertones. Compare your write with your neighbor’s wrist. If your skin tone is yellow, gold or peach, you have WARM undertones. If your skin tone is blue or pink, you have COOL undertones.

Body Shape Color can also compliment your body shape. It can create illusions of how you look, larger, taller, shorter or taller. White makes a person appear larger because of all the light that is reflected. Black makes a person appear smaller because all of the light is absorbed.

Color Illusion

Height An unbroken color gives an illusion of height Broken blocks of color detract from height

Emphasis Color can also be used to emphasize certain areas. A scarf or light collar will draw attention to the face and away from the rest of the body. A bright colored belt will draw attention to the waist.
