SKY LANTERN SKY LANTERN Dong-men Elementary School, Taiwan Teacher : Han-Chun Liu Fifth Grade

Sky lantern, which is also called Kong-Ming lantern, was invented by Zhu Ge, Kong-Ming (ancient Chinese celebrity). Sky lantern, which is also called Kong-Ming lantern, was invented by Zhu Ge, Kong-Ming (ancient Chinese celebrity).

 The principle of sky lantern is based on hot air goes upward, and then makes a sky lantern rise. It is also believed that sky lantern is the origin of hot air balloons.

It is alleged that sky lantern was originally designed for the transmission of military situation. The army led by Si Ma,Yi was deceived into wrong astrological information by sky lanterns. Afterwards, sky lantern has become a medium for people make a wish. My sister and I wrote our wishes on the sky lantern.

First deployed as a type of signaling balloon or, it is claimed, as a type of spy blimp in warfare. Later non-military applications were employed as they became popular with children at carnivals. These lanterns were subsequently incorporated into festivals like the Chinese Mid-Autumn and Lantern Festivals.
