The past tense of most verbs is made by adding “ed” to the end of the word.
Here are some examples of regular verbs: Present Past Help Helped SmellSmelled CallCalled LookLooked
Unfortunately, irregular verbs do not follow the add “ed” to make it past tense rule. That is why they are not considered regular verbs.
Examples of Irregular Verbs Present Tense Past Tense Past Participle arise arose arisen be was/were been choose chose chosen do did done eat ate eaten fall fell fallen get got gotten know knew known
The verbs that are past participle need to use the helping verbs had, have, and has.

Remember that the words had, has, and have can be separated from the past participle by other words in the sentence.

Flown is a past participle verb and needs the helping verb has.

The past participle has grown is the correct verb choice.

The verb swim in its present tense form is the correct verb choice.
Mary (swim / swam / swum ) in the ocean all day long, but now it is time to eat supper.
Swam being past tense is the correct verb choice.
Sally, the pitcher, (throw / threw ) the ball many times during today’s practice.
The past tense verb threw is the correct verb choice.
School is out and it is time to (drive / drove ) home!
