Welcome to Year 1 Welcome to Year 1

Our classrooms look very much like the reception classrooms

Every day your child will be “out and about”

Children will learn how to take turns, co operate and negotiate. We spend a lot of time teaching children how to work collaboratively as well as how to be independent and to be brave and “have a go”

Children will have activities where they are directed by an adult, and others where they are encouraged to work independently.

Every day in Year 1 there is a mathematical and a Literacy based activity.

We read every day in school…

Wednesday 25 th September is a chance for you to come in from 8.45am to 9am and read with your child in the classroom. A Reading and Phonics workshop will be held later on in the Autumn term. This will give you a chance to come and see how we teach and give you ideas of activities you can do at home to encourage reading.

Children will have P.E on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

What will the homework be ? Mathematics Reading or word purses Theme

Thank you for coming… If you have any questions, please come and ask.
