ASENT_BASICS.PPT ASENT Toolkit Makeup The ASENT toolkit is comprised of a large number or programs (editors, translators, utilities and reports) which are organized under 6 main 'Manager' tools. This makes it easier for the user to navigate and select the tools appropriate for the task at hand, as well as providing a seamless transition between the various programs. Library Managers Analysis Managers Session Manager – Session Manager – Add,Edit,Delete Projects, Assign users to projects, Archive & Restore projects and libraries. Invoke LSAR Interface and other Manager tools. Reliability Manager – Reliability Manager – Calculate failure rates, RBD analysis, import part lists and board data, Interfaces to PRISM, RAPTOR, CAE, SLATE and Doors. Perform Spares Modeling. Perform Thermal Analysis, & board layout. FMECA Manager – FMECA Manager – Construct product tree, perform FMEA, FMECA, RCM, Testability, False Alarm Rate analysis. Interface to Logan FTA and Giordano Diagnostician tools. Create, Edit, Delete Function/Phases. Maintainability Manager – Maintainability Manager – Construct product tree, perform preventive and corrective repair time analysis, availability metrics, identify tools and tasks required. Maintainability Data Manager – Maintainability Data Manager – Create and Edit tasks, toolkits and tools. View pictures of task definitions. Component Data Manager – Component Data Manager – Create and Edit parts, materials, packages, PWBs, Hybrids and defaults. Import parts from Excel

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Invoking ASENT If you have an ASENT icon on your Window’s Desktop, double- click on the icon, otherwise select Start|Programs| Asent and invoke it from the ASENT program group. OR

ASENT_BASICS.PPT The ASENT Session Manager The Session Manager is the first screen the user sees when they invoke the ASENT toolkit. Here, the user is presented with a list of projects on the server. New projects can be created. Existing projects can be copied, renamed, deleted, archived or restored. Also, a powerful wild- card search capability allows the user to search for information on other projects and re-use it.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT The ASENT Session Manager ASENT screens typically have an explorer view on the left side. In the Session Manager the explorer view displays a list of projects. The right side of the screen displays information that corresponds with the selected project. The data tabs allow you to see other data associated with the selected project. For example, to assign other users access to edit your project, you would select the Assign Users tab.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Typical Screen Layout Explorer View

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Definition of terms Below are definitions of terms used to describe different portions of the screen shown on the prior page.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Button descriptions

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Right-click and a pull-down menu appears ASENT’s Session Manager allows you to invoke other tools. Whenever you right-click the mouse on the explorer view of the screen, a pull- down menu will appear for the selected item. Here, a menu appears that allows us to invoke other ASENT tools.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Use wild-card search capability Here, the user quickly searches all projects on the server, and finds those that have a modem in their product tree structure. To invoke the search function merely click on the Search menu option or the toolbar icon.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Results of wild-card search The results of the wild-card search shows that a modem exists on the computer project.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Invoking the Reliability Manager To invoke the Reliability Manager merely right-click on a project and select the Reliability Manager menu option.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Reliability Mgr. Displays product tree

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Importing data from other projects The Import Subtree option makes importing data from other projects easy. In the slides that follow we will import a MODEM card from the Computer project to the Chassis of DEMO_PRJ.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT User selects the computer project to import from

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Product tree for the computer project Here, the user is presented with the product tree structure of the Computer project. The user navigates down to, and selects the MODEM card, and clicks on the OK button. This will import the MODEM card from the Computer project to the chassis of DEMO_PRJ. Click on the ‘+’, ‘-’ symbols to expand or collapse portions of the tree. Caution: Initially, only the project node will be displayed. Do not double- click on the project node to expand the tree, instead, select the ‘+’ symbol. If you double-click on the project node it will import the entire product tree.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Modem is imported to the chassis After the import, the MODEM card now appears in the chassis of DEMO_PRJ.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Calculate failure rates for entire system Failure rates can be calculated at any level (part, board, assembly, or the entire system). The following failure rate prediction methods are included: 217F, 217F-1, 217F-2, Bellcore TR-332 Issue 6, Telcordia, and the RAC Commercial Practices NonOp FR method.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Calculate failure rates for entire system At the system level, the user specifies the prediction method, environment, and operating temperature to be used in performing the failure rate prediction. Caution: These values should NOT be entered for lower level assemblies or boards unless they are different than the system values. By default, lower level assemblies and boards will inherit the FR Method, Environment and Temperature of their parent.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Calculating failure rates Select the type of failure rates to calculate (Operating or Non- Operating) and click on the Calculate button. ASENT will then use the FR Method that you have chosen (i.e. If 217FN2 was selected for Operating failure rates, then ASENT will use MIL- HDBK-217F, Notice 2).

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Status flags alert user of a problem Status Flags

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Failure Rate calculation status flags The table below describes the meaning of the status flags that appear in the product tree after calculating failure rates.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Status flags pinpoint overstressed C0001

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Run troubleshooting on C0001 Below, the troubleshooting option is turned on and the failure rate for C0001 is re-calculated.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Troubleshooting shows voltage overstress

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Correct applied voltage for C0001 Enter a new applied voltage value for C0001. Notice that the user can enter either a value for the applied voltage, or a percent of the rated voltage for the part. Here, the user sets the applied voltage to 50% of the rated voltage for the part.

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Re-calculated failure rates are OK now

ASENT_BASICS.PPT Report Generation Reports can be generated from any level in the product tree structure. Right-click on an item and select the Reports option. The Op Tree FR report is a very common reliability prediction report. It generates an indentured tree structure for the operating failure rate of the item. The report can be sorted by either failure rate or reference designator. It can include both assemblies and parts or just assemblies only.
