Amy Hutton (Enhanced Housing Options Project Manager) Enhanced Housing Options and Employment

H&F- A tale of two cities Population: 176,000 Tenure 44% owner occupation (Avg property price £495K) 33% social housing 22% PRS (Avg rent £380pw) 1% LCHO Housing Need 8,000 on social housing register 2,500 on LCHO register 1,200 in TA (80% unemployed) Employment across the borough: 12.7% of working-age people on key out-of-work benefits

H&F Trailblazer Programme Principles Customer-focused Ambitious Proactive Preventative Inclusive Effective Measurable

Housing & Employment initiatives Principles Stop thinking of work and housing separately (Hills) Housing need has roots in lack of livelihood Embed employment and training services alongside housing options to raise and capture aspirations

Housing & Employment Outcomes Wider range of people sustained in tenancies and employment Contribute to LAA targets around employment, reducing JSA, getting socially excluded adults back into work. Additional specific targets for each scheme Support mixed, sustainable communities on estates and throughout the borough Enable access to broader range of housing and life options Tackle intergenerational worklessness

EHO Learnings so far... Recession highlights the importance of training and capacity building for residents Staff transformation from Housing assessor to Housing Mentor is med-long term and not without challenges Employment can be key to expanding housing choice- but is only part of the holistic housing options picture Openness & willingness to share ideas and approaches is crucial and finally... There is always much more to learn!
